On Sunday the 11th of June, Mojatu were delighted to be part of Open Farm Sunday at Home Farm, Screveton! The annual event, organised by Farm owner David Rose and partner Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF), is always a great opportunity to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds to experience, first-hand, life on a farm, the work local farmers do making local produce, enhancing and maintaining the environment and the services and goods farming provides.
The day was a great success! Everyone got involved in a variety of farm activities including trailer tours around the farm, gardening workshops, animal petting, sheep shearing, a chance to see the Farm's own edible woodland area--and even a chance to have a go at betting on the goat races! There were also several stalls showcasing bespoke arts, crafts and food and drink all locally sourced and produced!
Mojatu were there advocating the work we do in our local communities. Mojatu Foundation director, Valentine Nkoyo oversaw the day, speaking on her current awareness campaigns and projects around female genital mutilation. Her most recent work saw her travel to Kenya with Mayor of Nottingham Jackie Morris to explore the current work and awareness surrounding FGM and to promote the ongoing work here in the UK and Nottingham. If you'd like more information on the work Mojatu Foundation do to raise awareness and with FGM survivors, you can do so here: http://www.mojatufoundation.org/
And don't forget to save next year's Open Farm Sunday in your calendar!
A big thank you to all who attended and made the event possible and a special thanks to David Rose who has worked closely with Mojatu over the last few years and has kindly allocated the foundation its own woodland area where you can adopt your own tree! Tree adoption is £50 and 10 per cent of the proceeds are donated to the funds towards FGM survivors and FGM awareness.
If you're interested in buying a tree, you can get more information here:
And if you liked the sound of Open Farm Sunday, Mojatu is hosting an AFRICAN FARM FEST at Home Farm on August the 12th. DON'T FORGET TO SAVE THE DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR!
