Following the easing of the lockdown allowing the general public to go on to their normal businesses, pressure has been mounting on the government to impose the wearing of facial cover in public place such as shops, supermarkets and public transport. In order to slow down the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), wearing facial cover or mask will be mandatory across country. This new legislation will come into effect from July 24.
According to the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock who has been in favour of these strict mask regulations, defaulters will be subject to a fine of £100. These measures were enacted on Tuesday in the House of Commons where the Health Minister said, “there is growing evidence that wearing a face covering in an enclosed space helps protect individuals and those around them from Coronavirus”.
Along with Mr Hancock, numerous politicians and business owners have spoken in relation to the matter saying that the coronavirus has already weakened the economy and businesses. In order to avoid further havoc, they opined that it is a priority to continue the efforts against the spread among which, face covering is paramount.
Such strict measures came against the backdrop of lockdown rules extension in some major cities across the country as a result of continued increase on confirmed cases. The wearing of facial cover has been mandatory on public transportation since mid-June. Shop owners and their employees are urged to apply these measures on everyone entering their shops. They are empowered by law to deny defaulters entry into their areas of business.
