Become an ally, let us fight racism together… resources for White people

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, knelt on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes. Floyd was handcuffed face down in the street. People are angry, disappointed and frustrated because they feel, and rightly so, that the officers responsible were not charged or punished due to racial differences between the victim and the officer.

Racism and discrimination have been going on for ages, but with increased global awareness, social media and demand for justice for all, the world is changing. We all need to play our part in making the people, especially children, to be more open-minded and to know more about the world by educating them. New understanding helps us to understand things from a different perspective and to appreciate and celebrate our diversities.

We must do the same. We need to educate ourselves to be aware of what is happening in our societies and to understand the need and ways in which we can make the world just and more equitable. This will help us understand the social constructs and structures that we need to counter to increase justice for all.
