Content creator Eddie Butita was part of the Kenyan presidential delegation accompanying President William Ruto on his state visit to the United States. During the trip, the group visited the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, where they had the opportunity to meet famous American TV host and comedian Steve Harvey.
Butita expressed that meeting Harvey had been a longstanding dream of his for the past 14 years, and he was overjoyed that this dream had finally become a reality. According to the article, when they met, Harvey told Butita “I saw you on YouTube”, indicating he was already familiar with Butita’s work as a content creator.
During their conversation, Butita and Harvey discussed ways to improve and develop the entertainment industry and showbusiness scene in Kenya. Butita revealed that they talked about “how to equip and train talents for business success in showbiz”, recognizing that the industry requires both creative and business skills to thrive.
This was not the first time Butita had interacted with President Ruto. Back in March 2023, Butita had jokingly advised the president to monetize his Facebook page, saying Ruto could potentially earn more money from it than Butita earns from his own content creation. Ruto had previously commented that Butita was earning more than the president’s own salary from his digital media activities.
This portrays Butita as being deeply involved in high-level discussions between Kenyan and American leaders regarding the creative industries. It highlights Butita’s longstanding relationship and friendly banter with President Ruto, showcasing how content creators are gaining prominence and influence in Kenya’s political and business spheres.
