Interior PS Raymond Omollo has confirmed that the Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma County will be the site of this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2024.

Speaking at the stadium grounds on Wednesday after a National Steering Committee meeting, PS Omollo noted that the stadium is 96% complete and ready to host the festivities.

“The stadium has now taken shape and it’s at 96 per cent complete in readiness for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations,” Omollo told journalists. He added that the committee is satisfied with the work that has been done at the stadium.

The stadium will accommodate a total of 12,700 residents, while the VVIP lodge will handle 2,000 invited guests. Omollo also confirmed that the Matulo Airstrip in Webuye is also 96% complete, with the Air Force having successfully conducted a test landing.

“Together with the National Steering Committee and Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, we have confirmed that the airstrip is complete and the final installation of the perimeter wall is on course,” Omollo said.

The PS further revealed that the State Lodge where the luncheon will be held is 100% complete and has been handed over to the national government.

In addition, there will be an agricultural exhibition at Kibabii University from May 27-30, as the theme for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations is “Agriculture and food security.”

Bungoma Governor Lusaka welcomed all Kenyans to the county for the celebrations and applauded the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Youth Service (NYS) for their assistance in completing the stadium.

Omollo assured residents that there will be enough umbrellas available in case of rain during the festivities.
