A 34-year-old violent rapist has been jailed for 16 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping a schoolgirl and another 36 months for later stabbing a man in the chest in Nottingham.

Solomon Campbell, of Sneinton near city centre, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court Monday this week on February 20th, 2023, was sentenced to 16 years in prison and was ordered to abide by a sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offenders register for life, after pleading guilty to rape and for repeatedly sexually assaulting a child.

Following a five-day trial Campbell was found guilty of three counts of raping a child and causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and he was also sentenced three-years for actual bodily harm.

The two sentences will run concurrently.

Detective Constable Kate Waters, who led the sexual assault investigation for Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Campbell is a violent child rapist who could very easily have ended a man’s life in a senseless street fight.

“The young victim in this case showed immense courage not only in coming forward to report what happened to her, but also by having the bravery to stand up during a crown court trial to explain what happened to her to a judge and jury.

Face of evil: Solomon Campbell, jailed for repeatedly raping a child and for stabbing a man in the street

“I hope this sentence now brings her and her family some closure and peace, and also hope it serves as a warning to other victims of sexual abuse that we will always listen to you and do all we can to bring those responsible to justice.”

Campbell was exposed after the girl bravely came forward to tell police what had been happening to her and that led to his arrest soon after he stabbed a 22-year-old man in the chest in Liverpool Street, St Ann’s, before casually walked away from the scene.

The prosecution told the court that Campbell was exposed after the girl bravely came forward to tell police what had been happening to her.

The court learnt that Campbell had been arguing with his victim for days before things turned violent in March last year.

Detective Constable Daisy Hough, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Campbell is now a convicted rapist, but we could so easily have ended up as a murder too when he decided to plunge as knife into the chest of his victim.

“As he starts a very long jail sentenced, I hope he takes some time to think about the impact his actions have had on his victim it gives him the time to think about the impact his appalling actions have had on both of his victims.

“I also hope this case sends a very strong message to those who believe it’s okay to carry and use a knife. It isn’t and we will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice.”

The 22-year-old victim was left with serious injuries while Campbell was spotted by Police officers a short-time later and claimed to be someone else.

However, his ruse, the court was told, uncovered by police who recognised his distinctive tattoos and arrested him.

“..I hope he takes some time to think about the impact his actions have had on his victim..”
