Officials at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) have successfully intercepted a significant drug shipment and a suspected ethanol smuggling operation at the Malaba One Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Busia County.

In a series of operations, KRA officials seized 520 rolls of bhang valued at approximately Sh520,000, alongside 308 jerricans, each containing 20 liters of suspected ethanol.

During routine patrols, KRA officers discovered a salon vehicle parked at Koteko, roughly 10 kilometers from their office. As officers approached, the vehicle sped away, resulting in a minor collision with a KRA pickup van. The driver of the salon car fled the scene on foot.

“The case is currently under investigation by the Anti-Narcotics Unit in Malaba,” KRA stated in an official release.

In a separate operation, acting on intelligence, KRA Customs and Border Control Team from Lwakhakha station intercepted the 308 jerricans, which were being transported in a lorry.

KRA confirmed that the goods have been secured at the Malaba OSBP and will undergo further legal procedures under customs law. The authority reiterated its commitment to combating illegal trade and ensuring public safety.
