Within the initial 14 days of the new year, there have been reports of two fatalities occurring in what is purported to be Airbnb accommodations in the vicinity of Nairobi city.

Two recent incidents have raised serious concerns as they are being investigated as alleged murder cases within the span of just 14 days into the new year. The most recent tragedy involves the discovery of the lifeless body of a 24-year-old female, found gruesomely stuffed in a paper bag off Thika Road in Nairobi on a Sunday.

The grim details reveal that the victim had been stabbed and dismembered in an apartment along TRM Drive, Thika Road. Law enforcement officials have disclosed that they are still in the process of determining the motive behind this heinous act. Disturbingly, the perpetrators apparently went so far as to place some of the victim’s body parts in a paper bag.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, unverified allegations circulating on social media suggest that the location where the tragic incident occurred was an Airbnb property. This has prompted heightened concerns about the safety and security of individuals utilising such accommodations in the region.

In a chilling sequence, this incident on TRM Drive transpired just eight days after another shocking event—a suspect was apprehended in connection with the brutal murder of socialite Starlet Wahu Mwangi. Wahu’s lifeless body was discovered in another Airbnb, this time in South B, Nairobi. The circumstances surrounding her demise are equally unsettling, as she and the suspected murderer were observed entering the Airbnb together on the night of January 3. The proximity of these two incidents within a short timeframe underscores the urgency of addressing potential safety issues and ensuring the well-being of those utilizing rental accommodations in the area.

An ongoing investigation has been initiated by law enforcement officers following the unsettling discovery of the dismembered body of an unidentified woman at an Airbnb residence in Roysambu. The victim had reportedly checked into the accommodation with a male companion, who is currently being treated as the primary suspect in this gruesome crime.

Nairobi County police boss, Adamson Bungei, confirmed the incident on Sunday, January 14, offering reassurance to the public that efforts are underway to conduct a thorough investigation into the brutal murder. The unsettling circumstances surrounding the case highlight the need for prompt and comprehensive actions to unveil the details of the incident and bring those responsible to justice. As authorities delve into the intricacies of this mysterious death, there is a collective hope for clarity and resolution for the sake of the victim and the community at large.

The recent incident unfolds just days after the tragic discovery of Instagram model Starlet Wahu’s lifeless body in room Y32 on the fourth floor of Papino Apartments—an Airbnb located in Nairobi’s South B. The unsettling events began when the building’s watchman observed the key suspect in the murder, John Matara, hastily departing from the scene, his clothes visibly stained with blood. Reacting swiftly to the alarming sight, the watchman raised an immediate alarm.

Upon receiving the distress call, the owner of the Airbnb, who had rented the unit to Wahu and Matara for the night, utilised a spare key to gain access to the locked premises from the outside. To her horror, she stumbled upon the distressing scene of Wahu’s lifeless body sprawled on the floor.

In response to the alert, Makadara detectives swiftly arrived at the location and were confronted with the harrowing sight of the young woman’s body, surrounded by a pool of blood, positioned between the bed and the main door. The circumstances indicated a desperate struggle for help had taken place, underscoring the gravity and violence of the incident. As investigators delve into the details of this tragic event, there is a pressing need for a thorough examination to unravel the sequence of events leading to the untimely demise of Starlet Wahu and to bring those responsible to justice.

Recent disturbing incidents in Nairobi Airbnb accommodations highlight potential risks. Exercise caution, prioritise safety, and stay vigilant when choosing and staying in such locations. A heightened awareness can contribute to a safer and more secure experience for all. Additionally, be mindful of surroundings, familiarise yourself with emergency exits, and trust your instincts. Report any suspicious activity to authorities promptly. Consider sharing your Airbnb experiences to raise awareness within the community. Stay vigilant, informed, and prioritise safety for a positive travel experience
