The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has issued a warning to motorists in Nairobi, urging them to avoid using Raila Odinga (formerly Mbagathi Road) and Langata roads due to heavy flooding caused by a recent downpour. In addition, motorists in Mombasa are advised to stay away from Links Road.

Following the heavy rains on Saturday night, these areas experienced severe flooding, posing a risk to drivers. KURA has deployed a technical team to address the situation and minimize its impact.

“We would like to caution motorists traveling along Raila Odinga Road, Langata Road near Wilson Airport, and Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa County, about the extensive flooding resulting from the unprecedented heavy rainfall,” warned KURA in a tweet on Sunday.

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution when approaching these sections of the road. Alternatively, it is recommended that they avoid these roads until the floodwaters recede. KURA’s technical team is on the ground, actively working to assess and implement effective measures to mitigate the effects of flooding on the road infrastructure.

Meanwhile, reports of heavy flooding have emerged from various parts of Nairobi and its surroundings, rendering several roads impassable and causing damage to properties. Kitengela, a rapidly growing cosmopolitan town, experienced significant flooding due to inadequate drainage systems, resulting in cars being swept away by the powerful currents.

In Kilimani, residents of Elite Court on Ole Dume Road have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected individuals.

Motorists and residents should therefore stay updated on the latest advisories and exercise caution during this period of heavy rainfall and flooding.
