In a landmark collaboration for climate action and youth empowerment, Youth Future Lab, in partnership with Naturehub Collective and KCB Bank, has planted 1,700 trees across schools in Kenya. This initiative not only contributes to reforestation and the fight against climate change but also equips young learners with practical knowledge and skills to champion sustainable practices in their communities.

The tree planting drive took place in Times School (Kenol), PCEA Kagema Primary (Ruiru-Githurai), and CITAM Schools (Buruburu), where students engaged in hands-on activities that combined environmental action with classroom learning. By planting and nurturing trees themselves, learners gained a tangible understanding of biodiversity, soil conservation, air quality improvement, and climate resilience.

Beyond planting trees, the initiative incorporated interactive environmental education sessions, empowering students to recognize their role as change-makers in addressing global challenges locally. This approach fostered not just greener school compounds, but also a generation of environmentally conscious leaders.

The collaboration brought together Youth Future Lab’s youth-focused innovation programs, Naturehub Collective’s grassroots climate advocacy, and KCB Bank’s commitment to sustainable development. By mobilizing resources, expertise, and community support, the partners showcased how diverse sectors can unite to achieve measurable impact.

“This project is more than adding trees to the landscape—it’s about planting ideas of stewardship, resilience, and responsibility in the minds of young people,” noted FREDRICK KIOKO, ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION LEAD AT YOUTH FUTURE LAB.

The project’s success illustrates the power of cross-sector partnerships in advancing the climate agenda while uplifting youth voices. With plans underway to replicate and expand the model in other schools and communities across Kenya, the partners remain committed to cultivating a sustainable, inclusive, and climate-smart future.

This initiative stands as a testament to what can be achieved when purpose-driven organizations unite: creating greener environments today and empowering tomorrow’s custodians of the earth.
