The Football Kenya Premier League kicked off again following the festive season, showcasing an exciting lineup of matches to bring the first leg to a thrilling conclusion. Benson Omalla of Gor Mahia maintains his position at the top of the scoring charts in the FKF Premier League even after 17 rounds, despite a goal drought in the last four matches. Despite not finding the net recently, Omalla, who has been rumoured to be considering a move to USM Alger, remains a formidable candidate for the Golden Boot. It’s worth noting that in the previous season, he secured the second spot in the goal-scoring charts, with the top position held by Elvis Rupia, who was then playing for Kenya Police.

Maintaining their stellar performance, Gor Mahia, perched at the summit of the league, sustained their unbeaten record with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Posta Rangers on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. The decisive moment arrived in the 39th minute courtesy of Kennedy Onyango’s well-timed strike in a closely contested match.

Gor Mahia’s triumph further solidifies their dominant position in the league standings, boasting an impressive 37 points. Their remarkable record includes 10 victories and seven draws, showcasing both their offensive prowess and defensive resilience. As the league progresses, Gor Mahia’s unbeaten run continues to be a testament to their consistency and determination to maintain their status as frontrunners in the competition. Fans eagerly anticipate their upcoming matches, eager to witness if they can sustain this impressive form throughout the season.

In yet another away encounter,  Muhoroni Youth emerged victorious over Shabana FC with a narrow 1-0 triumph at the Raila Odinga Homa Bay Stadium. Adebowale Samuel’s early goal proved to be the deciding factor, securing crucial three points for Muhoroni in the fiercely contested match.

This pivotal win has significantly impacted Muhoroni Youth’s position in the league standings. With a total of 18 points, they find themselves situated in 14th place, just four points clear of the relegation zone. As the competition intensifies, Muhoroni will be keen to build on this momentum and climb further up the table, while Shabana FC looks to regroup and bounce back from this defeat.

In a compelling match held at the Ruaraka Stadium, Nairobi City Stars secured a dominant 3-0 victory over FC Talanta, with Mohamed Bajaber initiating the scoring, followed by goals from Robinson Asenwa and Samuel Kapen that further extended City Stars’ lead. This significant triumph propels Nairobi City Stars to an impressive second place in the league standings, accumulating a total of 30 points. The team’s remarkable performance has positioned them just below the league leaders, Gor Mahia, showcasing their prowess and determination in the competition. Surpassing Posta Rangers in the rankings adds an extra layer of accomplishment for City Stars, as they establish themselves as serious contenders for the league title.

At the Police Sacco Stadium, Kenneth Muguna played a pivotal role in Kenya Police’s impressive 3-0 victory over Kakamega homeboyz. Muguna’s contribution was complemented by goals from Musa Mohamed and Tito Okello, sealing a convincing win for the home team.

This triumph not only showcased Muguna’s individual prowess but also highlighted the collective strength of the Kenya Police side. The well-coordinated efforts of the team, as evidenced by goals from Mohamed and Okello, underline their capability to secure crucial victories. As a result of this commanding performance, Kakamega Homeboyz finds themselves just three points ahead of Kenya Police in the league standings, with 27 and 24 points, respectively. The close proximity in points emphasizes the competitiveness in the mid-table, setting the stage for an intriguing battle for higher placement as the season progresses

In the concluding fixture,  Bandari secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nzoia Sugar at the Mbaraki Sports Club. This triumph catapults the Mombasa-based club to the fourth position in the league standings, amassing a total of 29 points. Notably, they find themselves tied with Posta Rangers in the third spot, although Bandari holds a slightly lower goal difference, as reported by FKF.
