It only happens twice a year, but it’s easy to forget when the clocks change because it is a tad difficult to keep a tab on it,

However, Mojatu Online can independently confirm that this year the clocks will change this coming weekend.

The wait, for a short-wearing weather, it seems, is over as spring appears ready to take its turn.

This year, the clocks are set to go forward next weekend on Sunday on March 26, a day earlier than in 2022 and will go backward on October 29.

While the weather is still chilly and spring feels like a distant dream, it is almost that time to bring your clocks forward, as the official start of British Summer Time is around the corner.

in this winter, we’ve seen more than enough freezing fog, snow and ice, let alone the relentless wind but soon all this will be history as there seems to be better days ahead.

But sunny, warm Spring days are on their way – and putting the clocks forward an hour will immediately give us even more daylight as we head home from work or walk the dog.

Plus we’ve got the Easter bank holidays to look forward to.

So, just when do we put the clocks forward and why does the date change every year?

It’s time for time change

As days start to get noticeably longer and brighter, it’s time to ‘spring forward’ your clocks for Daylight Saving Time. This annual ritual of adjusting the clocks has been in place for over a century and serves to maximise the amount of daylight during the warmer months.

The idea behind Daylight Saving Time is to take advantage of the longer daylight hours during the summer months by shifting the clocks forward an hour in the spring.

This allows people to enjoy more daylight in the evening, which can lead to reduced energy usage and greater opportunities for outdoor activities.

When will the clocks change?

Similar to Easter, the changing of the clocks does not occur on a fixed date every year.

Even though the date is different, the time stays the same every year. The clocks will advance one hour at 1 am, which means you’ll lose an hour of sleep, but it also means that the days will get lighter for longer after that.

Although it’s always a good idea to remember to manually adjust your home’s clocks, those who use smartphone clocks don’t have to worry because they do so on their own.

Will the clocks go back and forward in 2024 and 2025?

While some may think it’s a good idea to make the most out of our daylight, many believe that the system isn’t that beneficial.

In 2019, the European Parliament even voted to scrap Daylight Saving Time altogether, however, plans have since been halted as an agreement couldn’t be reached.

Going forward, the Government has already confirmed that in 2024, the clocks will go forward on March 31 and go back on October 27. In 2025, the clocks will go forward on March 30 and back on October 26.

When does Spring actually start?

The Met Office states that the determination of the start of spring “depends on whether you are referring to the astronomical or meteorological spring.” The meteorological calendar, which is more widely used, is based on the annual temperature cycle and clearly defines the seasons according to their months.

The astronomical seasons, on the other hand, take into account the equinoxes and solstices to describe where the Earth’s orbit is in relation to the Sun. This framework makes it easier to observe weather patterns and gives forecasters the ability to contrast seasonal and monthly data.

The meteorological calendar predicts that spring will begin on March 1 and conclude on May 31. However, according to the astronomical timetable, spring begins on March 20 and lasts until June 21.
