On Saturday 14th February, community members gathered at The Vine Community Centre, Bobbers Mill Road, Nottingham, for a powerful and informative Windrush Compensation Advocacy & Support event organised by Mojatu Foundation and partners. The event brought together individuals and families seeking guidance, clarity, and justice under the Windrush Compensation Scheme.

The session focused on raising awareness about the rights of the Windrush generation and supporting those affected by the Windrush scandal. Through structured information sessions, attendees were guided step-by-step through the compensation process, including eligibility criteria, required documentation, and timelines for submission.

A key highlight of the event was the hands-on support provided for claims completion and submission. Experienced advocates were available to assist individuals in filling out forms accurately, ensuring that applicants felt confident and supported throughout the process. Many participants expressed relief at having access to direct, in-person assistance to navigate what can often feel like a complex system.

Beyond technical guidance, the event also offered referrals for legal advice and emotional wellbeing support. Recognising the deep personal impact the Windrush scandal has had on many individuals and families, organisers ensured that conversations were handled with sensitivity, respect, and care.

The atmosphere throughout the day was one of solidarity and empowerment. Community members shared experiences, asked questions openly, and connected with support networks committed to justice and accountability. The presence of partner organisations strengthened the collective commitment to ensuring that no one eligible for compensation is left behind.

This event formed part of continued efforts to promote awareness of the Windrush Compensation Scheme and to support affected individuals across Nottingham and beyond. Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing advocacy, outreach, and community engagement to ensure that justice for Windrush remains a lived reality, not just a slogan.
