Nairobi, June 18, 2024 – Crime rates in Nairobi town have seen a worrying increase in recent months. Residents are reporting a spike in pickpocketing and robbery incidents. Many people feel unsafe walking in the streets, especially at night. The police have also noticed this surge and are working hard to address it.

Governor Johnson Sakaja addressed the issue today, promising to restore security in the city. “We are aware of the growing crime problem, and we are taking steps to make Nairobi safe again,” Sakaja said. “We will increase police presence and improve street lighting to deter criminals.”

The increase in crime has affected businesses as well. Shop owners are worried about the safety of their customers and their goods. Many have started closing earlier to avoid becoming targets. Some have even hired private security to protect their premises.

Residents are hopeful that the governor’s plan will bring a change. “We just want to feel safe in our own city,” said Jane Mwangi, a local shopkeeper. “If the government can keep their promise, it will make a big difference for all of us.”
