A Crisis in the Community
Domestic violence continues to be a deeply concerning issue in Nottingham and across the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics, domestic abuse-related crimes in Nottinghamshire have shown a steady increase in recent years, highlighting the urgent need for local solutions and supportive frameworks. CMnD, a faith-based organisation dedicated to holistic community development, took a decisive step to address the issue head-on.
The Events: Educate, Empower, Engage
Held at Marcu Garvey Centre every month , the CMnD-organised event features a blend of informative workshops, survivor testimonies, expert panel discussions, and resource exhibitions. The event aimed not only to educate the public about the signs and effects of domestic violence, but also to empower individuals to speak out and seek help.
Stories of Survival and Strength
Central to this event are the voices of survivors, who share their journeys of resilience and recovery. Their stories underscored the emotional, psychological, and often spiritual toll domestic violence takes—and how community support played a key role in their healing.
The Centre for Mission and Development’s initiative in Nottingham stands as a beacon of hope and action in the fight against domestic violence. By centring the voices of survivors and uniting various sectors of the community, CMnD has laid the groundwork for lasting impact.
As Bishop. Dr.Francis Waihenya aptly put it:
“Love is louder than violence. And together, we will build a community where everyone is safe, respected, and free.”
