You all can relate the pain of a bad pimple that pops up after an expensive face scrub, right? It’s a boost to self esteem when you walk along the alleyways and everyone you meet worships the sparkling glow of your face, more so, to ladies.

As praises and sweet nothings is all what spices our entire existence. But now as some enjoy this favor, others are just mad stuck on what to do to their faces to at least be a bit confident of themselves. Acne being the cause of it all.

Apart from dark spots, acne comes with a lot of psychological and mental issues that are at some point unbearable. Acne is one of the most prevalent skin condition, affecting more than 85% of teenagers.

It typically starts at puberty stage and resolves slowly as the person reaches 20, though some continue to have it into their 40s and 50s.It’s a life threatening and a self limiting condition, though little attention is given to it.

Despite it’s apparent nature, it’s effects can go far deeper than the surface of the mere skin, and it can place a heavy emotional and psychological burden on victims that can be far worse than the psychological impact.

The change in the skin’s appearance or rather the face’s appearance may give rise to a destroyed or changed body image that inturn may lead to anger, fear, shame, anxiety, depression, embarrassments, bullying and stigmatization within peer groups.

Again, it comes with lack of confidence, social withdrawal, feelings of insecurity and inferiority, functional and interpersonal difficulties at school and even suicidal tendencies as some have been reported and attributed to the effects of acne.

Causes of Acne

Acne occurs when tiny holes on the surface of the skin become clogged. These holes are called pores. Each pore opens to a follicle. A follicle contains a hair and an oil gland. The oil released by the gland helps remove old skin cells and keeps your skin soft.

The glands can become blocked with a mixture or oil and skin cells, the blockage is called a plug or comedone. If the top of the plug is white, it is called a whitehead. It is called a blackhead if the top of the plug is dark.

When bacteria become trapped in the plug, the body’s immune system may react to it, causing pimples. Acne that is deep in your skin may cause hard, painful cysts.

Things that may trigger Acne include:

Hormonal changes that make the skin oilier. These may be related to puberty, menstrual periods, pregnancy, birth control pills, or stress. Greasy or oily cosmetic and hair products.

Certain drugs (such as steroids, testosterone, estrogen, and phenytoin). Birth control devices, such as some drug-containing IUDs, can make acne worse.Heavy sweating and humidity.Excessively touching, resting on, or rubbing the skin

Treatment of Acne

SELF-CARE

Clean your skin gently with a mild, nondrying soap (such as Dove, Neutrogena, Cetaphil, CeraVe, or Basics). Look for water-based or “noncomedogenic” formulas for cosmetics and skin creams. Noncomedogenic products have been tested and proven not to clog pores and cause acne in most people. Remove all dirt or make-up.

Wash once or twice a day, including after exercising.Avoid scrubbing or repeated skin washing.Shampoo your hair daily, especially if it is oily.Comb or pull your hair back to keep the hair out of your face.

Other natural treatments of Acne may include applying avocado on the face or also the liquid that comes from aloe vera

What not to do

Try not to aggressively squeeze, scratch, pick, or rub the pimples. This can lead to skin infections, slower healing, and scarring. Avoid wearing tight headbands, baseball caps, and other hats.

Avoid touching your face with your hands or fingers. greasy cosmetics or creams. DO NOT leave make-up on overnight. Embrace skin care routine and you’ll feel confident, important and protect your image.
